After trawling through the Gambian Newspapers I arrived at the Foroyaa link page http://www.foroyaa.gm/ and to my surprise got this ,that's right a log in page, most odd for a newspaper,it may be that being a newspaper now is a problem, still I suppose its a first, a newspaper where you have to be a member to read the news ! Could it be that with this editorial The point Newspaper has revealed the reason why Foroyaa has decided to do what it has done? http://thepoint.gm/africa/gambia/article/press-freedom-and-peoples-right-to-information

Foroyaa online has been unaccessable like this the past weeks. I think there is some technical problem. Perhaps the site is either hacked or some one has not been doing his/her job.

Momodou,I am sure that you are right,it is a pity though that with their recent change in direction that this "technical" glitch or whatever has occurred now, when and if they return,I for one would be interested to hear what went wrong,we never will know of course they will carry on as though nothing has happened, for me a small problem of credibility,if you are unable to explain your own problems to the public how can you expose others problems?,maybe asking too much. There again I have been known to be wrong before |

But how can you know if they explained to the public or not when you are not buying the hard copy? Not being online does not mean that the paper is not being published.
I have been informed that someone tried to hack the host. You know things can be slow to resolve in The Gambia. |

Before this problem earlier I tried several times to access Foroyaa online but result was opening a window seeking DONATION first to log in, which appeared suspicious |

Momodou,I am sure that you have many contacts in Gambia who can tell us IF the paper is available in hard copy on the streets or not, whatever, NO news either by rumor or published by others has appeared, maybe as kobo and yourself surmise the site has been hacked, but why? a "donation scam " or has Foroyaa found a real scoop and was going to expose something or someone? As usual "You know things can be slow to resolve in The Gambia. "

That is stale news because the page asking for funds never comes up now. The site had been hacked but and Foroyaa is working on a solutionquote: Originally posted by kobo

Momodou, from your latest posting it would appear that all is well with foroyaa and that it was a "technical" problem which is what you first thought, lets hope the solution comes quickly so we can all read about the latest exposee in Gambian doings

OK, OK, so you were right Momodou, hard copy still available on the streets of Gambia !
MAYBE, if you have time, you might keep up updated with Foroyaa until they are up and running on line again.?

Well it's back in "Beta testing" mode and looking like a real newspaper, fully revamped, easy to navigate from the left side bar, OK got to go and read what is in there now ,the answer to that is not much yet its a work in progress I do like the clear layout though.
OK its in Beta.......but under a photo of Nelson Mandella is some strange writing, don't want to insult the people who speak this language, but its confusing to me http://www.foroyaa.gm/index.php/burning-issue
"Ad sea intellegat scripserit, veri tacimates inimicus vim eu. Vix error suscipit ad, cibo vulputate vituperata vim no. Ad eum liber tritani nonumes, te wisi mazim zril vis. Ne decore definitionem est, inani eruditi ex pri, ad quis facete constituto usu. Vix id singulis prodesset philosophia, erat putant commodo ex sed, noster commodo efficiendi te vim. Eum eu odio abhorreant, mel ut cibo sale patrioque, has an idque dolorum docendi. Choro omittam est an. Utamur deseruisse eum et, persius ancillae necessitatibus qui ne, sit luptatum honestatis id. No mei utinam saperet sententiae, ut ubique diceret vituperatoribus quo, in nulla elitr doming eum. Amet sapientem ut cum." |

Thanks,I thought it looked like latin, but not being a scholar and often making mistakes I hoped that someone else would have a go and post, thanks again, clever what you can do with computers if you know what you are doing. Foroyaa may be having a game with us as the latin text means nothing to me,for all I know it may be all the politicians shown in the pictures wishing My Queen Elizabeth 11nd of the United Kingdom a Super Diamond Jubilee,God Bless Her.

It gives me no pleasure at all to point out that Foroyaa still has not yet got it's act together .OK the "Beta" version shows a presence but there is still a lot of work to do I understand, but surely Foroyaa should realise that readers are missing the NEW revamped Foroyaa which should have been up and running by now, come on boys get your act together so we can read what is going on in Gambia,WE MISS YOUR PUBLICATION. |

It appears that Foroyaa (on line edition ) has given up,lack of money?,lack of skilled IT people to get the paper back on its feet? lack of dedication by those tasked getting the paper back on its feet, sorry to say it looks if Foroyaa (on line)is a light that has stopped burning and has turned to ashes, prove me wrong again Foroyaa, I dare you ! |
