Fate of Guinea-Bissau leaders unknown
BISSAU, Guinea-Bissau (AP) - The fate of Guinea-Bissau's civilian leaders was unknown early Friday after overnight attacks by soldiers who hurled grenades at the prime minister's home and sealed off the downtown area of the capital. Portugal, the former colonial ruler of the tiny African nation, appealed for the violence to stop and advised Portuguese citizens to say inside their homes, according ...

Thanks Momodou,Personally, I like Guinea-Bissau,as a location it has so much going for it, good climate,on the coast,BUT there is no structure, there appears to be no rules about anything, the country lurches from one VIOLENT problem to another, this is the latest, there have been distinct signs of infrastructure improvements in the recent past but the whole economy relies mostly on dodgey dealings of all kinds by money men,how the ordinary citizens manage is a mystery. I seriously doubt if Guinea-Bissau as a country will ever leave the wild west frontier status that it is well known for any time soon. Great pity. |

Guinea-Bissau junta gives 2-year timeframe
BISSAU, Guinea-Bissau (AP) - The military junta that seized power in Guinea-Bissau last week is now proposing a two-year timeframe for organizing new elections, a lengthy process unlikely to appease the international community and regional mediators. The accord was signed late Wednesday without the participation of the country's ruling party, though a number of opposition parties backed the accord... Read Full Story |

Same as in The Gambia in 94 then... |

These military terrorists in Guinea Bissau will end up misbehaving like Yahya Jammeh in Gambia. It was a two year transition for return to civilian that Yahya Jammeh eventually robbed Gambian people with his bogus development. These Guinea Bissau bandits will kill like Jammeh and to impose their dictates on the people.
This is so disgusting to think about. Shame to all forms of military self perpetuation. Shame to Gambia. Shame on Yahya Jammeh. |

Guinea-Bissau: World community condemns transition Union of West African states Ecowas, the African Union and other powers have condemned an "illegal" deal to transfer power in Guinea-Bissau.

"President Jammeh posited that they do hope that the junta will not lose this chance, because as he puts it, there are so many things lined up for them. One of these, he said, is that “Ecowas will invite the International Criminal Court (ICC) to make a thorough investigation of all the assassinations, murders, coups and attempted coups including also drug dealing so that anybody found wanting would be taken to the international court of justice”. “But they can avoid that by negotiating with Ecowas and comply with its resolution and then we solve the problem peacefully,” he asserted." Some sensible movement here,I hope it works, its good to see :" The future transition government, "will be a government of technocrats and neutral personalities who will have to oversee a transition period of 12 months" Note, NO politicians involved at this stage, that will save so much time in argueing about unnecessary stuff before decisions are made
