This goes beyond 1 family.
It is considered culturally acceptable to consider women as property to use as the husband and his family wish.
Women need economic independence from men to be free.
Society needs to make it clear that violence against women isn't acceptable. |

Your reply is almost justification for "culture" Gambiabev,which I am certain that you did not mean to imply.
I would suggest that these particular "people" and those who think like them are not to be considered as members of the human race,but rather as representatives of another species.
If anyone here disagrees with my words please reply with your own views on how such conduct can be justified under any circumstances.

I am not justifying such behaviour.
An explanation is that it is culturally entrenched and acceptable to the men in that culture.
For example, in the UK we have areas that are dominated by Pakistani culture.
Many things that happen to women in that culture are horrific to people of English background, but acceptable to the Pakistani community.
We are back to the same thing: education and empowerment of women. This gives them more freedom and choices in life. |

I understand your words,BUT such behaviour by ANYBODY is totally WRONG all the talk about "culture" is a smoke screen for practices that would have been tolerated hundreds of years ago BUT NOT NOW its really time that ORDINARY folk were not put into a smokescreen by those who seek to prolong "traditions" and "culture" that are from hundreds of years ago and have NO PLACE in the world of 2012.
Gambiabev, you would not condone the continued practice of FGM as being part of "culture" that should not be discontinued NOW,or would you.?

Kobo, I don’t believe that you are condoning this act but your bringing Islam and the name of our good prophet in this issue is disappointing. This is a criminal act and has nothing to do with whatever religion the perpetrators belong to.

I am happy with the words of Kobo,I am not sure if the words are his or a quote,however the topic has been brought to a close by the use of these words:

Momodou I don't think so and tarnish image of "our good prophet" or cause any disrepute to any prophet and religion.
