APRC women mobiliser preaches unity
Africa » Gambia

Friday, September 23, 2011
The newly appointed APRC Women mobiliser has urged the women folk to forget their personal differences and come together under one umbrella to support President Jammeh and the APRC, so as to ensure a historic landslide victory for the ruling party come the November 24th polls.

Aja Ndey Jatta made these appeal Thursday while addressing several APRC women militants, including women mobilisers, yai compins, lady councilors, and women federations within the Kombos and Greater Banjul Area who converged on the APRC National Bureau along Radio Gambia Road in Kanifing to discuss among other things, the way forward in the interest of the APRC prior to the nationwide tour by the women slated for 3rd October 2011.

Among the objectives of the forthcoming tour are to foster greater unity among women and to mobilise all Gambian women to strongly rally behind the president and the APRC. It is also intended to organise and motivate all women to vote for the APRC.

Jatta reminded the women that the APRC Bureau is for all members of the APRC who can come forward with their agendas that will foster unity and discuss issues that are of interest to the party.

She urged the women and youths to be steadfast and continue their allegiance to the APRC, adding that it is the only party that has brought numerous developments to the doorstep of every Gambian.

''We have seen where he [President Jammeh] intervened and settled broken marriages, helped the needy, give scholarship for many youths at different ranks and levels, provided free education for girls, free medical care and many more,'' she said.

She further stated that the love and concern President Jammeh has for Gambians cannot be overemphasised, as he does not look at ethnicity or political party.

Others speakers at the occasion all called for unity and for the people to rally behind President Jammeh and the APRC. They all expressed optimism that come 24 November 2011, the ruling party will win massively with a historic percentage that has never happened in the country’s history.

The speakers included Aja Fatou Bah, the deputy women mobiliser; Fatoumata Jahumpa-Cesay, an adviser to the women group ; Ajaratou Fatou Nyang Mballo-Ceesay, a KMC nominated councilor; Isatou Jarju, West Coast Region women mobiliser; Alhagi Modou Picka Jallow, APRC youth adviser; Bakary Jaiteh, APRC administrative secretary No. 2; and Nyimansata Sanneh Bojang, political adviser to women group, who also chaired the occasion.

During the occasion, 'Sera-Deema', a women organisation also paid a courtesy call on Madam Jatta at the Bureau to congratulate her on her new appointment.
