OK so 30 batteries have been stolen that leaves 70 cooking units out of 100 ready to go, after a year this donation has not been handed out " the village development committee is yet to deliver the materials to the women." what are these people about ? give them the stoves, never mind about trying to get something for yourself from the donation, which is why the delay is happening,no wonder the country is in a mess if at local level those of the VDC are so dumb.

Missing Batteries Delay Delivery of Solar Cookers to Sintet Women
Solar Cooker eases the burden on women
Tuesday, August 16, 2011
Women of Sintet village in the Foni Jarrol district of West Coast Region are raising concerns over the Village Development Committee’s delay in handing over solar cooking facilities donated to them.
On May 1, 2010, Mr Alhagie Tamba, the chairperson of Sintet Village Development Committee had received hundred cooking stoves on behalf of the rural village women. Each of the stoves has a solar panel and a battery.
The materials were donated by the Participatory Integrated Watershed Management Project and International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).
Using a demand-driven, participatory approach with local people identifying needs, PIWAMP is a seven-year project in Gambia, which among others, builds biogas plants.
The solar cooking facility project in Sintet village seeks to ease the burden on the women, who use firewood for cooking. As an alternative cooking energy source, it also seeks to minimise the cutting-down of trees with a view to preserving the country’s forest cover.
However, over a year after the donation, the village development committee is yet to deliver the materials to the women.
The women said, they have contacted the ward councilor, Mr Momodou Bah to help them take ownership of the cooking stoves, but to no avail.
Several village sources said, the delivery is delayed due to the missing of thirty-five batteries.
When contacted, chairperson Tamba confirmed that over 30 batteries went missing from the store where the batteries were kept.
He is yet to find out who stole the batteries.
