Gambian women grateful to President Jammeh Africa » Gambia Sunday, July 03, 2011 Gambian women through the Office of the Vice President and Ministry of Women’s Affairs have expressed utmost gratitude and sincere appreciation to the Gambian leader, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh, for donating tractors to women in the country.
In a letter signed by the vice president and minister of Women’s Affairs; the permanent secretary, Office of the Vice President; the chairperson of the National Women Council; the executive director of the Women’s Bureau; and the president of the National Federation of Gambian Women; the women further thanked the Gambian leader for always empowering Gambian women.
The letter reads: On behalf of the Office of the Vice President and Ministry of Women’s Affairs, the National Women’s Council, Women’s Bureau, and the Federation of Gambian Women, I have the honour to extend to you, our utmost gratitude and sincere appreciation for your thoughtfulness in donating Tractors to Gambian women.
As you are already aware, Gambian women constitute half the population of the country the majority of which are engaged in agricultural production both for subsistence and commercial purposes. Hence, Women farmers play significant role in the socio-economic development of the country as provider of food, foreign exchange earner, employer and income earner in addition to their reproductive and parenting roles.
However, there are problems women farmers encounter one of which, is lack of access to farm inputs. Therefore, this donation, coupled with your “back to the land initiative” as well as the various interventions undertaken by the Ministry of Agriculture, under your directives, would go a long way in improving yield, boost socio-economic development and attain self sufficiency in household food security.
Once again, we thank you immensely for your efforts in pushing for the empowerment of Gambian women, and wish to seize this opportunity to assure you that tractors will be used judiciously. Meanwhile, please note that this Office has organized an emergency consultative meeting instant and an Action Plan developed to guide the retrival, reallocation and management of these tractors (copy of the said Action Plan is herewith attached for Your Excellency’s kind attention).
While extending to you and your family, best wishes of good health and prosperity, and pray for your continued personal wellbeing and Allah’s guidance in all your future undertakings, please accept the assurance of our highest consideration and esteem.
H.E. Madam Dr. Isatou Njie Saidy Vice President of the Republic And Minister for Women’s Affairs
……………. Your Excellency Mr. President, the Chief Scout of The Gambia, please allow me on behalf of the President of the Scout Council, the entire scouting family world-wide and my own behalf to congratulate you for your benevolent gesture for distributing tractors to the Gambian people through the governor’s, chiefs and women groups.
Your Excellency Sir, now is the time The Gambia is working towards full independence, because if one have to depend on imported basic food and no export then we are not independent fully, but with your plans and personal commitment The Gambia can become second to none in food production and eradication of poverty.
Your Excellency Sir, your love and worries for the people of The Gambia and the human race motivated you to take the trouble of getting these tractors because you never want Gambians to suffer, in that regards Allah the Almighty will make you to realize all your aspiration, give you long life, good health and the will to develop The Gambia to second to none in the whole world.
Your Excellency Sir, allow me to congratulate you for also donating tractors to the youths of this country through Ministry of Youths and Sports, which manifested your love for the youths. With the present management of the Ministry of Youths and Sports we can register a rapid renewal of the attitude of youths towards farming and nation building.
Your Excellency Sir, you are so much great and full of initiation. This is how Europe, America and Asia have been develop to where they are. If you can be food self-sufficient with large export then food will be cheap and we will be able to save and concentrate on other development areas. Sir, if all the leaders in Africa were like you, Africans will not die because of hunger and wars because hungry man is always angry. Therefore I will urge all African leaders to learn from you. May Allah guide and protect you at all times.
Pa Omar Bojang Chief Scout Commissioner
