Why is it people are so paranoide about smokers ? Theres lots of other things killing us on the planet

My views are mixed. I don't smoke but was brought up by (wonderful) parents who did. They both died young. I get chest infections. These things may not be linked!! But it's likley they are.
I think it's an individual choice but I don't like smokers blowing their smoke over me so am happy for them to smoke outside if they want to. |

Even when in a smoking area and in company I ask if people mind if I smoke because to some people its realy objectional

I honestly think that smokers don,t realise how much they stink... It clings to your hair and clothes, your breath smells, and it turns your teeth yellow. Plus if i am in your vicinity I am going to end up smelling like an ashtray.
I think its a bit like people with body odour, they can't smell it, but everyone around them can.
Sorry but its true!

Very true,but if you come from a generation when smoking was seen to be OK and socially acceptable and most people had a cigarette,you become hooked,just like a junkie,and unless you are told that you will die if you smoke another cigarette then you continue just like an addict on cocaine or cannabis smack,the stuff that in SOME circles is accepted today,these last may not make you smell like an ashtray but will kill you far sooner,times change addiction persists,in China opium has been used for many many years,(I presume it MAYBE still today)there have even been wars between countries over over who should control the trade,such wars are still going on today,nothing is new.OK I don't know if there has ever been a tobacco war

| As I understand it Nocotine is a stronger drug than Heroin and a hard habit to kick. I know many have and there is no Methodone for smokers to wean them of it |

Up until just recently America was not only the worlds worst polluter but also the BIGGEST hypocrites but now overtaken by china as the major polluter
Let me relate a story A couple of years ago I took a cruise on a American ship round the Caribbean obviously mainly American tourists
The ship did have designated smoking arrears which I observed.
One evening which was a Formal night bow tie and evening dress I was having a cigarette in a designated smoking areas and an American elderly lady walked past an made sure I heard her adverse comments. where apron I got up and approached her and looking and speaking the part the perfect English gentleman I said to her she was most rude and pointed out that America consumes 25% of the worlds energy and contributes 75% of its pollution. I said the chances are I might be killing myself but you are killing the planet she was shocked that I had confronted her. But Nuff said
