Why no warrant for non appearance ? I have a feeling about this,to me there is more that is not being told,it APPEARS that there is a hope that this case will disappear just like the alleged offender,maybe other newspapers can find out more information?
Alleged rapist ‘absconds’ Africa » Gambia Tuesday, June 21, 2011 One Momodou Kanteh, who was charged with two criminal offences before Magistrate Hilary Abeke of the Brikama Magistrates Court was said to have absconded from the jurisdiction of the court.
This pronouncement was made by the state counsel, E. Jaiteh on Monday, 20th June 2011 when his case was mentioned in the court.
State counsel E. Jaiteh informed the court that the accused was nowhere to be found and was not also in any custody neither in the State Central Prison nor police custody. He explained that from the last adjourned date, the office of director of Public Prosecution (DPP) have made all efforts to trace the whereabouts of the accused but could not trace him.
The state counsel then applied for the case to be suspended indefinitely until such a time that the office of the DPP is able to trace the whereabouts of the accused. The case was then adjourned accordingly. Author: by Lama S. Jallow
