http://dailynews.gm/africa/gambia/article/army-agric-trucks-ferry-aprc-kiang-west-militants-to-register

Monday, May 09, 2011
A large number of ruling APRC party militants from Kiang West, but residing in Greater Banjul and Brikama were transported to Kiang West for registration in two state-owned trucks, the National Assembly Member for Kiang West has confirmed.
But the spokesperson of the Gambia Armed Forces has denied the report.
“The vehicle may have the same colour as that of the armed forces, but it is not true that an army vehicle has transported APRC militants to Kiang,” Lt. Omar Bojang, the military spokesperson said.

However, eyewitnesses have confirmed that one of the trucks bears the registration number of Gambia Armed Forces, GAF 2794 and that of the department of agriculture is a white coloured truck, labeled KF 13 TA. The Department of agriculture could not be reached for comment at the time of going to press.
Meanwhile, The Daily News has been reliably informed that the trucks picked-up ruling party militants at various locations in Brikama and Serrekunda on Saturday and returned them on Sunday.
Ahead of the upcoming presidential election due November 24, general registration of voters, under the auspices of the Independent Electoral Commission kicked off May 5 across the country. It will last for forty-five days.
Kiang West has three registration centres, but the transported APRC militants, mainly youths, got registered in Keneba and Burong, our sources said.
Mr Momodou LK Sanneh of the main opposition UDP is the National Assembly Member for Kiang West. He is the leader of the opposition minority - Minority Leader - in the ruling APRC dominated parliament.
Kiang is an opposition stronghold, the only area where president Jammeh suffered defeat in 2006. And 2007 parliamentary elections, the opposition UDP won two of the three seats in Kiang.
But signs are clear that the ruling party is pumping more energy, resources and even issuing veiled threats to win over the voters in that opposition stronghold .
However, Hon Sanneh said his seat is not under any threat and come next elections his party, UDP, will gain a resounding victory.
“Those that matter are in Kiang,” he told The Daily News. He however expressed concern over the military’s involvement in politics, especially at this early stage of registration for the upcoming election.
The Independent Electoral Commission has warned against abuse of incumbency, yet reports of the ruling party using state resources to its advantage are common.
The recently held bye-election in Wuli East which saw the ruling party retaining the seat it lost due to the demise of late Hon Bekai Camara, is a glaringly example, if PDOIS’ secretary general’s statement on the bye-election is anything to go by.
Halifa said in a statement published on Foroyaa on Friday: “The fleet of transports utilised by the APRC comprised ADB 429, GAMTEL 18, SG79 Kanilai farm Pick Up, 5 Pick Pps without number plates; 1A Forestry, BSAC transport.
“Pick Up with number plates covered by card board, ADR transport used by the Attorney General, the Mayor had his transport, URR1, URR3, transport by Minister of Health. All these officials were accompanied by their security guards to give them the air of officialdom.
He added: “The entourage travelled with high ranking law enforcement and security officers and was escorted by both armed and unarmed security personnel. The Voters in Wuli East did admit that they had never witnessed such intrusion of officials with high security presence in their constituency.”

It shows that APRC steals from tax payer by taking advantage of their position as government to use what belong to all Gambians. APRC may not even have a single fund.Let them come our and disclose their source of funding? The tief is using state funds to run his own campaign.Government vehicles, petrol and even the army oh my God. I am sure the people of kiang would show them the biggest surprise ever come november.
