I already read this report and this I agree that in Turkey, the role of women in the society/labor force is very behind due to tradition. Men dominate the society and women, most of them are housewife, are very behind. I did not surprise with Gambian women (I admire so much) are doing so well they run the family, they feed the family, they are house-wife and workers of the family. The religious and traditional influence on women in Turkey,is much more than Gambia which is very relax and liberal nation in terms of religion.

p.s. Good job Jammeh! lol

diaspora! Too many Chiefs and Very Few Indians.

Halifa Salah: PDOIS is however realistic. It is fully aware that the Gambian voters are yet to reach a level of political consciousness that they rely on to vote on the basis of Principles, policies and programmes and practices.

This is very interesting. The countries at the top of the list are those that are generally more equal and have less differentials between incomes. I would have expected cuba to be higher up the list.

I was surprised that Spain and Ireland came above the UK. Generally speaking Catholic countries are usually considered not as equal for women because of their attitudes to contraception, abortion, children rearing etc. Possibly these countries are becoming more 'modern' or is it that these more subtle effects on women cannot be measured?

Interesting to see Japan as very low down with a very patriarchal society, even though it it wealthy.

Fascinating and complex: wealth, and the distribution of that wealth, education, health, societal traditions, religion and so on, all interplay.

Generally the more equal societies feature highest on happiness ratings of countries. Iceland, Sweden, Norway etc seem to have something right!!!!
