Dear all, We have learnt that false information is circulating claiming that the Gambia Writers' Association (as our association is also referred to) has conferred to His Excellency a title. We would like to clearly state the following as a disclaimer: None of the members of the Executive Committee is aware of such a conferred title; If such a title has been conferred, the Writers Association of The Gambia has no hand in it; We hereby inform all that our official name is the Writers Association of The Gambia with the acronym WAG. I hope this will dispel all rumours and assure the members we will continue to represent them adequately as we are mandated to do.

You beat me to Santa's thread. Whatever happened to humor in our small Gambia now-a-days, but you can't blame the people due to the fragile nature of things. I hope my April-fool piece didn't cause Suntou and his folks the nightmare that they are going through. If so, my deep regrets for posting the humor which was rejoined several times here and at the Gambia-L.Be that Suntou is a regular here and the Gambia-L, I doubt that he missed the subsequent rejoinders.

I actually missed it. WAG sent the press release to its members few days ago. The organisation i felt wish to distance itself from politics. It may be better if you can write to them and explain the material as April Fools. |

Dear Sir/Madam:
I have been alerted of your press release regards to an April-fool piece I ran at the Gambia-L and Bantaba on 04/01/2011.
This is just to make it very clear that the piece was entirely for humor. In fact, this author didn’t mention your organization by name, rather just said “Gambia Writing Association.”
Be that the names are similar, I can understand how it can cause you the wrath of the drama and nightmare, especially with the clear picture of today’s Gambia.
I take deep regrets in running the humorous piece which caused you so much inconvenience.

Thanks for the clarification. The big boys in WAG may have looked at the bigger picture. For people know, Jammeh may request a further title (shafa) sounce cool . I have forwarded your clarification to the big guys, but no one responded yet. You know Gambian big boy mentality...
