He never said anything either that they are misrepresenting him.
------------ ‘President Jammeh Authorises No one to Campaign for Kingship’
By Alieu darboe
Friday, March 25, 2011
The unpopular campaign being mounted by traditional chiefs is not a directive from the Gambian president, the Governor of the rural Upper River Region (URR) has said.
"Maybe some people who are indeed loyal to President Yahya Jammeh are campaigning for kingship, but to be realistic President Jammeh has not asked for it and he is not sending anyone to campaign for it," Governor Omar Khan said recently during a dialogue with the US Ambassador Pamela White.
Led by paramount chief Demba Sanyang, the executive members of National Council of Chiefs last year toured the whole country, meeting with district and regional elders to rally support for their campaign to crown President Jammeh as king.
The tour came after the delivery of two brand new vehicles provided to them by president Jammeh, even though it is not clear whether the vehicles were meant for the purpose of campaigning for the kingship.
Supported by some staunch supporters and few parliamentarians of the ruling ARPC, the chiefs said their reason to coronate President Jammeh is a way of rewarding him for the ‘massive development’ registered by his government.
However, the unveiling of the activities of traditional chiefs, who are leading the campaign sent shocking waves across the country and beyond amid widespread condemnation.
Opposition politicians said President Jammeh’s 16-year rule registers no meaningful development ‘as the people are wallowing in abject poverty’ coupled with human rights violations.
Even among the masses, the move is greeted with widespread condemnation with reports of some ruling APRC party supporters defecting to the main opposition-UDP as a protest against the risk of becoming subjects of Yahya Jammeh.
The kingship issue was wrangled at the National Assembly when the opposition-minority leader Momodou L K Sanneh of United Democrat Party called for a stop to the kingship campaign, saying it is unconstitutional. But some ruling APRC parliamentarians argued that the campaigners have a right to freedom of expression.
The office of the president remains mute over the issue and the paramount chief Demba Sanyang refused to grant an interview to Foroyaa newspaper over the issue.
But Governor Khan said President Jammeh did not authorize anyone to campaign for him to be crowned as king. Whether or not he supports the campaign is not clear.
Meanwhile, according to The Gambian constitution, The Gambia is a republic and any attempt to change that status quo means there will be a referendum with two-third of votes required for its amendment.

Dailynews Editorial:Who Authorizes Jammeh’s Kingship Campaign? Answer From President’s Office Friday, March 25, 2011
The governor of the rural Upper River region of The Gambia has disassociated president Jammeh from the unpopular kingship campaign for the Gambian president to become monarch of the country. This kingship campaign is being mounted by district chiefs and it is still not laid to rest, despite its unpopularity even among the ranks of ruling APRC supporters. The chiefs’ last point of call was the National Assembly where they held talks with the Speaker. Too bold, indeed are our chiefs for daring to face and let slip their unthinkable agenda to the body that is expected preserve the little piece left of our diluting democracy. Too disappointing, as well are the legislative arms. Although the debate on whether or not President Jammeh authorizes the campaign is a matter of speculation, it is important for one to observe some significant correlation between the campaign and the presidency. Firstly, the chiefs kicked-off the campaign after the president donated vehicles to them. Secondly, the agenda was unveiled at State House when president Jammeh called them for a meeting. And thirdly, it was president Jammeh who spoke ill of elections whilst opening meeting before the chiefs divulged their activity. However, Governor Khan has said President Jammeh did not authorize anyone to campaign for his kingship. The president himself has not yet spoken for or against the agenda. The people should understand that what the Governor said is his own opinion. He expressed it, say, to the best of his knowledge. It cannot be accepted in its entirety. The air should be cleared by the president himself, by making a statement in the best interest of the public.
Gambians would now be waiting for a clarification from the President’s Office to let the whole country know how matters stand. The long silence from the side of the president would further thicken the clouds or doubts and suspicions, which only breeds speculations and rumours in the public. As a head of state who always frowns at rumoring and speculating about his personality and his government, Jammeh should clear the doubt of the people. Keeping quiet, while others campaign and only a few disassociating the president from authorizing anyone, is not sufficient to clear doubts. In any process of governance there should be transparency so that people can know where the government is driving the country. Needless to say, the kingship campaign has made many people to be suspicious that the there are people who want to lead the Gambians to constitutional astray, campaigning for a system which is totally in contravention with an enshrined provision of our constitution.
If there is no monarchy aspirant in this country and the campaigners’ political affiliation is the ruling party, then people need something more reliable than a governor making an open speech without an official statement from the President’s Office. He who does not want to be rumoured and speculated should not create a room for rumour and speculation.

If indeed it was not the dictator who sanctioned the campaign as Omar Khan said, how comes the president gave vehicles to the campaigners and for what?If omar is not lying? |

Yaya Jammeh has no shame telling lies to the nation. This whole idea is coming from him. It is another one big lie from a man with no shame of doing so. Come on people, don't take a word of it.
Omar Khan is also telling lies. He will face the devil for bringing the matter up in that way. Yaya Jammeh wants to be king, but will never have that on Gambian soil.
Why is anyone mad enough to think about naming a criminal king? If he ever comes to be king, Yaya will slaughter people in the open and feed his crocodiles. |

What if, the executive members of the National Council of Chiefs, led by paramount chief Demba Sanyang, were touring the whole country rallying for support to crown layer Ousainou Darbor king. Would the present silence be so deafening? Wouldn't they by now be guests at some "hotel", charged with something? Wonder what the charges would be..............................................................L L

The truth is that if he Yahya Jammeh did not like the idea ; no one would go around openly campagning for it.I surely clearly heard Efribody Mybe on BenTV state that whether people like it or not the kingship of jammeh will happen so we; meaning everybody should just accept that as a done deal. This was during a ceremony of support by the women at the national stadium Bakau as he Efri Mbye spoke to Waka Jagne. If Omar Abou Khan makes such a statement we can only judge that as one of those meaningless statements which can best be described as misinformation I challenge yayha to be brave for once and openly declare to all and sundry that he wants to be king and stop this silly game of hiding behind those silly old men who should know better. it is in my opinion sheer cowardise on yahya's part to be playing such silly games, the brave simply declare their intensions without fear for or of what the consequencies such declarations might be. |

Kaanibaa, take this as just another trickery from Yaya to Omar Khan. This is another message from Yaya asking Omar and the other commissioners to denounce a move that is so dear to the Kanilai butcher. All of them are telling lies and feeding on blood money.
Kitabul Arerr just wrote the words of my mind when he asked what the level of silence would be if this was a move by the same group seeking to make king: Ousainou, Halifa, Sidia, Hamat, OJ, and anyone for that matter.
These blood ******s are terrible enough to set fire on Gambia soil. Wicked souls they are. |

There was no question that Jammeh was ever going to be King of the Gambia. It is a total red herring in the first place. Gambia is a Republic pure and simple. There's no way that the Gambian people would allow their Constitution to be changed for a few eccentrics coming up with an ill conceived notion to make it into a Kingdom on the back of an opposition fictional saga.
This king story broke when I was in Gambia and even amongst Jammeh's staunchest supporters that is where they drew the line. No way is Jammeh going to be King and no where has Jammeh said he wanted to be King. In the minds of the Chiefs who are campaigning for him to be king for them he is the "King of Hearts and minds " and that's all he will ever be. The Republic of Gambia wlll remain a Republic.

Amen, Sister Omega ! amen again;but take a look back to the days of the transition from military rule to the participation of the AFPRC in the following or ensuing elections , you will see similar moves in circles close to Yayha going around making declarations claiming to be the opinion leaders who are in one voice calling on him Yahya to stand in the said elections which as it seems he was not interested in if not for those declarations or calls from the said opinion leaders etc. here again the same profile of opinion leaders are canvassing for the creation of yahya's status as king of The Gambia. if any one is doubting the reality of the moves or his intentions I think we are going to be in the same crazed scenario of the epic story of the naked emperor and his people. If as I say Yahya is not interested;it is just simple and very easy indeed to make an official declaration over the radio and all media outlets of those facts and a banning of all such silly moves , unless that is done Yahya will be as guilty of the said intentions by default or by actual deed. Indeed it is his responsibilty as the guardian of our constitution and republican status to distance himself from any monarchical moves in any way or manner . As it is , or stands , he is condoning it and any denial by others of that fact is not sufficient, he is the subject of the claims and he is the one responsible for making it clear that he is not interested and this is in the public domain so he should make a public declaration for or against the claims. |

I think the deafening silence from Yahya Jammeh is disingenuous to the Gambian people.
Bob Marley to Yahya: "Say Something":
You ain't gonna miss your water until your well runs dry; No matter how you treat him, the man will never be satisfied. Say something! Could you be - could you be - could you be loved? Could you be - could you be loved? Say something! Say something! Could you be - could you be - could you be loved? Say something! Could you be - could you be loved? Say something! Say something! Say something! Say something! Say something! Could you be loved? Say something! Say something! Reggae, reggae! Say something! Rockers, rockers! Say something! Reggae, reggae! Say something! Rockers, rockers! Say something! Could you be loved? Say something! Uh! Say something! Come on! Say something! Could you be - could you be - could you be loved? Say something! Oh no Kitabul Arerr, Jammeh has NEVER been silent about this mad kingship drive. He is by all account THE big mouth behind it. Like the opinion leaders in the transition from soldier man to statesman, Yaya is a full time schemer. He is behind it all, caught with his pants down.
It is said about people who lie, that even if you catch them in the ugly act, they turn round to say it is not them.

LOL, karamba! Yahya Jammeh, the facilitator by proxy. Lurking in the shadows, just to claim the throne, whenever the opportunity arises. A Smart move, which I hope Gambians will never allow to materialize. God forbit Mr. Kitabul Errer for anyone to campaign for Ousainou or any body to be king of the Gambia. I totally hate the idea of kingship be it my own dad or anyone for that matter. If the council of chiefs start to campaign for Darboe or anyone I would challenge them the same way I am challenging them. You should do the same if you are patriotic and love then Gambia because if my son or grandson or yours want to run for presidency tomorrow, the action of the chiefs would deny them that chance. |

Not the point, Moe, and with due respect, you're acting like a Nincompoop , overlooking my argument, which is: If a gang of Chiefs been roaming around the country, promoting folk, other than President Jammeh, for Kingship. Wouldn't they, by now, be languishing in jail, charged with anti consitutional propaganda, conspiracy, or whatever. Nothing more nothing less. No beating around the bush.......................lol?
