Nine employees of The Gambia Petroleum Company, were on Tuesday, 22nd of March 2011 brought before the Banjul Magistrates Court, presided over by Magistrate Taiwo Ade Alagbe, charged with giving false information to a public officer contrary to Section 114 (a) of the Criminal Code, Laws of The Gambia.

According to the prosecution, Kebba Kallow, Mustapha Barrow, Bakary Drammeh, Jalikebba Jobarteh, Adama Darboe, Karamo Manneh, Bakary Kinteh, Ebrima Jatta and Lamin Ceesay on the 20th of October 2010 in Banjul and diverse places in the Republic of The Gambia, gave false information to the Office of The President that Gam Petroleum is a Lebanese-owned company and that they used that capacity to maltreat, misuse and wrongfully dismiss the Gambian employees of Gam Petroleum company; an information they knew was false, and thereby committed an offence.

When the charge was read to the accused persons, they all denied any wrong doing. They were subsequently granted bail in the sum of D300, 000 with one Gambian surety each. Hearing continues.

"He said the Governor told them to come to his office to look in the files to see whether there are any records.
