Folks,
If you could recall sometime last year, the PDOIS party convened a congress at the Atlantic Hotel in Banjul but and for unexplained reasons, failed to elect a new executive and leader or renew the mandate of the existing ones. However, they have promised to convene another congress this year, 2011, to review and elect a new leadership. The 2011 election is now not more than six months away and yet no word has being said or heard about PDOIS’s pending leadership election.
If PDOIS is to be taken seriously on democracy and their mantra of ''Soveriegnty of the People'', I think it is absolutely imperative that its oligarchs are seen not only adhering to but also projecting democracy and democratic principles through their very own internal politics. My question now is; is the PDOIS party ever going to convene anther congress this year, before the 2011 election, to elect a leader? Or is it going to be another ''Destiny has called on me to lead?''
The last time PDOIS conducted leadership election was in 2000 in the village of Wuli Taibatu, Upper River Region.
Thanks

In 2010, I did ask the leadership of my party, the UDP to resign and submit itself to the congress for election, and they did exactly that. In fact, I found them already preparing the ground for a congress. It was the people themselves who, in Jarra Soma, in turn decided to renew the mandates of some members and replaced others. Therefore, I can categorically and unquestionably state that the UDP has a leadership that is leading with a clear mandate from the very owners of the party, the people. Absolutely no doubt about that. Unless you are demented, you certainly wouldn't have any problem acknowledging this irrefutable fact. As for the Coalition issue, it is the UDP that has taken the lead as befitting a leading Opposition, to reach out to others in the spirit of coalition building. We are ready to lead and ever looking forward to others joining us in tandem with conventional principles of coalition building as practiced universally. Maybe you need to tell me how on earth your president, Nasiiru Dean, is able to fire at will, elected members of parliament representing your party, the APRC- Alliance for Promotion and Rejuvenation of Corruption. Thanks Daffeh

PLEASE PRODUCE PUBLIC RECORDS; IN PARTICULAR UDP CONGRESS ACTIVITIES, RESOLUTIONS AND PRESS RELEASES TO SUBSTANTIATE YOUR OPINIONS
THE RECORDS SPEAKS FOR THEMSELVES FROM AVAILABLE PUBLIC INFORMATION; TO GATHER ACCURATE INFORMATION AND DISPEL ANY SMEARING, DISTORTION, HATE CAMPAIGN, INTELLECTUAL DIS-HONESTY & DISINGENUOUS COMMENTS! REFER RELATED BANTBA GAMBIAN POLITICS TOPIC UDP 2010 CONGRESS V PDOIS 2010 CONGRESS UNDER http://www.gambia.dk/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=9532
OTHERWISE SOURCE OF MORE INFORMATION FROM UDP WEBSITE UNDER http://udpgambia.wordpress.com/home/
SEARCH RESULT FOR UDP CONGRESS RESOLUTIONS FROM UDP WEBSITE; "Sorry, but you are looking for something that isn't here."
HOWEVER FOROYAA IS HELPFUL ON CERTAIN FACTS AND THESE ARE INFORMATION I HAVE GATHERED THROUGH FOROYAA;
1. UDP CONGRESS NEWS
"Mr Ousainou Darboe, the leader of the United Democratic Party (UDP), on Saturday 12 June 2010 addressed their party Congress which was held at the UDP party bureau in Soma. Mr Hamat Bah, the leader of the National Reconciliation Party (NRP) and Hon. Sanneh, the Minority leader of the National Assembly also addressed the Congress. After the remarks of the chair and the speeches of these three personalities the plenary session ended and party militants could be seen sitting in groups discussing. There were no contributions and questions from the floor during the plenary session. Elections were conducted and a rally held on the following day."
2. P.D.O.I.S CONGRESS RESOLUTIONS
"The PDOIS Congress has mandated the Central Committee to mandate Sidia Jatta, NADD National Assembly Member, to be responsible for inter party relations. All those who wish to discuss relation between political parties should contact Sidia Jatta."
"The seventh resolution took cognizance of the fact that internal party democracy is inconceivable without power being exercised by the party members and that power must extend to the election of executive members of the party. The Congress further took note of the fact that this is the first congress that PDOIS held after the establishment of NADD. It resolves that the delegates should go back to work for the branches of the party to flourish in order to enable the membership to develop relation and understanding with each other. It resolves to hold another Congress at the latter part of this year or early next year to enable the party to update its registration of members and facilitate the democratic selection of delegates so as to elect party executive members. "P.D.O.I.S Congress Press Release
NB: RESOLUTIONS WERE TAKEN BY P.D.O.I.S AND DISCLOSED TO THE PUBLIC FOR TRANSPARENCY! IF CURRENT EXECUTIVE WERE GRANTED MANDATE TO CONTINUE TO SERVE AND DEFER RE-ELECTION OF PARTY EXECUTIVE MEMBERS, IT IS IN LINE WITH DEMOCRATIC PRINCIPLES; AS DEMONSTRATED TO HAVE BEEN ADDRESSED DURING CONGRESS ALL IMPORTANT ISSUES ON CONGRESS AGENDA; INCLUDING FRESH MANDATES FOR EXECUTIVE & LEADERS WERE ADDRESSED! SO YOU DON'T HAVE ANY POINT TO SCORE AGAINST P.D.O.I.S APART FROM DISTORTIONS AND SMEARING CAMPAIGN

I THINK I FORGET TO MENTION THAT;
1. IT WAS LAMIN WAA JUWARA (FORMER UDP MEMBER) WHO PROTESTED OR CHALLENGED ON CHANGE OF LEADERSHIP AND CONGRESS ISSUES FOR THE PARTY; THAT TURNED NASTY FOR HIS FAREWELL
2. FROM THAT ONWARDS UDP PUT IT ON ITS AGENDA; ORGANISING A CONGRESS AND FORMALISED FRESH MANDATE FOR LAWYER DARBOE TO LEAD.
3. IT APPEARS 2010 CONGRESS WAS FIRST EVER SINCE PARTY WAS FORM AND I WONDER WHETHER IT WAS DUE TO LOGISTICS OR HUMAN RESOURCES
4. ELECTIONS MUST HAVE CONTENDERS AND EVEN BEFORE CONGRESS LAWYER DARBOE WAS SURE TO LEAD. IT WAS A DONE DEAL AND AS A MATTER OF FORMALITY! WHO WERE THE OTHER CONTENDERS FOR UDP LEADERSHIP/EXECUTIVE POSITIONS WAS DARBOE UN-OPPOSED HOW WERE THE ELECTIONS CONDUCTED; BY BALLOT, INTERNAL PARTY RULES, CONFIDENTIAL OR OPENLY BY CONGRESS RAISE OF HANDS
5. ANY RAPPORTEUR AND RESOLUTIONS FOR PUBLIC INFORMATION
As for the Coalition issue, it is the UDP that has taken the lead as befitting a leading Opposition, to reach out to others in the spirit of coalition building. We are ready to lead and ever looking forward to others joining us in tandem with conventional principles of coalition building as practiced universally.
PRINCIPLES OF COALITION ARE MERELY S STRGEGIC/TACTICAL DECISIONS AND RESOLUTIONS PURSUED TO RESOLVE A POLITICAL CRISES AND COMMON CAUSE. IT IS THROUGH CONVENTIONAL PRINCIPLES AND PRACTISE THAT COALITIONS ARE BUILT BUT NOT ACCORDING TO YOUR DICTATES AS REFERRED ABOVE
WHAT IS A CONVENTION ACCORDING TO DICTIONARY; "a meeting or formal assembly, as of representatives or delegates, for discussion of and action on particular matters of common concern. "
EACH PARTY WOULD HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO REPRESENT, DISCUSS, TENDER PROPOSALS AND NEGOTIATE ACCORDINGLY IF CONVENTIONAL PROTOCOLS WERE RESPECTED AND FOLLOWED BY OUR LEADERS THEY FAILED TO DO IT BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT GIVEN CHANCE, ILL-ADVISED FROM RAMBLINGS OF PARTY MILITANTS, HIGH-JACKING THE DECISIONS AND DICTATING AGENDAS; ESPECIALLY YOUR VERY-SELF BEING VOCAL EXCESSIVELY AND SHOWING CONTEMPT TO YOUR LEADER

1. IT'S LONG OVER-DUE AND IN THE INTEREST OF UDP TO HAVE ADOPTED SOUND RESOLUTIONS (ON COALITIONS/ALLIANCE ESPECIALLY "MERGERS") AND APPLY TACTICAL SKILLS TO SELL ITS AGENDA, WINNING OTHER OPPONENTS AND BE READY FACE ANY CHALLENGE THAT WARRANTS FLEXIBILITY OR SACRIFICE TO DIS-LODGE JAMMEH/APRC
2. HOWEVER THERE ARE HIGH SPIRITS, ENCOURAGEMENT AND SINCERITY ON THE NEED FOR A UNITED FRONT BEYOND YOUR OWN PERSPECTIVE OF HOW THINGS SHOULD BE DONE FOR EXAMPLE BOTH THESE OPPOSITION CAMPS; UDP, P.D.O.I.S, G.M.C & G.P.D.P LEADERS ALREADY ACKNOWLEDGED THE FACTS FROM PARTY DECLARATIONS AND OTHER RECENT STATEMENTS IN RECORD
LATEST FROM UDP LEADER;"In Darboe's view, there is not only the possibility of an opposition alliance, but there is also a higher probability of an opposition alliance. "We have the ability to unseat President Jammeh in 2011, and we will do it," Darboe continued." Maybe you need to tell me how on earth your president, Nasiiru Dean, is able to fire at will, elected members of parliament representing your party, the APRC- Alliance for Promotion and Rejuvenation of Corruption.
"We ask all our citizens to be an integral part of the change they seek by getting involved in whatever capacity suits them.Change is always a difficult task and along the way it is easy to become despondent, fearful, tired, angry, and sometimes be tempted to throw in the towel. But because the cause we have embarked upon is a just one that must be pursued, we must all strive harder to achieve these important goals. We however, can do it only if we come together as one and face the opponent. This cause is bigger than any individual or group of individuals."Lawyer Ousainou Darboe (Leader)UDP New Year Message ADDRESSED TO ALL CITIZENS TOWARDS THE COMMON GOOD! Thanks Daffeh

Nyari Please leave our buhaba alone. He is officially, the most charismatic Gambian leader ever. I am looking forward to the word on his PhD completion which was announced back in 2006. "If i lose the election, I will go into academia". Destiny and history will judge him well in terms of self pontification, hence, let him be. He has written two books since, one a diary of Pan-Africanism, too complex for chicken brians like mine. |
