Jammehrites or blind Gambians! I mean those of you who though you can phisically see but decided to ignore all turtures, mysterious disappearances of your fellow citizens, Arrests of innocent people and much more perpetuation of rule by terror!Human being can be evil when greed crept into their hearts but all the same one day, I mean one day........ have you heard this one?
I cannot understand where we heading to! My God has it now become a crime to hoist the flag of a party you support? How about nemerous APRC flags accross the country would the police now go around rounding up APRC militants for putting up those green flags? Gambia under Jammeh is disgusting. This man has really created history for himself.I feel sorry for his Children who unfortunately happen to be children of such a man. |

Janyangfara, Obama's former Chief of staff Rah Emanuel fervently believes that no political crisis should be wasted. I see this as another opportunity for the opposition camp to stand up to APRC and highlight to Gambians the ills of APRC rule. |

If thoroughly investigated I am sure the reason behind their arrest has nothing to do with a Flag being hoisted or support. The true story everyone seems to overlook. Most just wanna see what they wanna see. Thats the opinion of the GMC party, completely different from the States reason if the story has any salt. The Gambian opposition Terangaba is truely incompetent and they all lack basic competencies to be politicians. Believe me when I say so unless you wanna disregard the facts from their incarcerations and political criss crossing. How many of you can prove that the GMC is a legitimate party that will be contesting the elections. Am afraid not and come elections we shall see.............................................Peace |

Man arrested for hanging GMC flag in his compound By Soury Camara in Basse Wednesday, March 09, 2011
Picture: Mai Fatty (leader GMC)
Reports reaching this paper from Basse in the Upper River Region (URR) have it that one Bunka Fatty, said to be an uncle to the leader of the opposition Gambia Moral Congress (GMC), Mai Fatty, was Monday afternoon arrested by the police in Basse. Bunka Fatty, according to reports, was arrested, and still being held at the time of going to press, after the police allegedly found a GMC flag hoisted and posters bearing the GMC leader’s pictures in the family compound in Nyakoi Kerewan by one Momodou Fatty. According to our reporter, who visited the Basse Police Station, the said Bunka Fatty was not placed in a police cell, but was seen sitting in the police station, where he spent the night on Monday. In an interview with our reporter, Bunka Fatty said while he was away in Bansang, on Monday morning to visit a relative who was hospitalised there, a team of police officers arrived at his family compound in Nyakoi Kerewan and asked for the family head, but were told that he was away. “On my arrival back home on Monday afternoon, I was informed about the situation and asked to report to Basse Police Station for questioning. I reported to the police at 3 pm the same day, and the police told me that they were looking for the man who hung the flag and posters of the GMC at our compound,” Bunka narrated. According to him, he told the police that it was one Momodou Fatty, who is currently in Banjul. “The police however told me that unless he (Momodou Fatty) comes back to Basse, I would be held responsible, as head of the compound. This was how I was placed in detention,” he said. He further explained that he was told that the matter was in the hands of the Governor of URR, Omar Khan. “My family members reached the Governor’s office to plead with him for mercy to allow my release, but they were told that unless Momodou Fatty returns back to Basse, I will not be released,” he added.´
Momodou Fatty was said to be on his way to Basse at the time of going to press. When contacted, the Commissioner of Police for URR, Ebrima Cham, confirmed the story, and added that the “arrest was in connection with a violation of the I.E.C. policy by the family, since it was not time for elections”.
Meanwhile, the leader of the GMC contacted our office yesterday, and strongly condemned the arrest, noting that it is an infringement of their constitutional rights, and “an attempt to put fear among our teeming supporters in URR, particularly in Wuli West”. Meanwhile, Mai Fatty also urged his supporters to remain calm and law-abiding, as he arranged for legal representation for his uncle.

Dailynews Editorial:Why the Arrests and Detentions for Exercising Political Rights?
Wednesday, March 09, 2011 The alleged arrest and detention of the parents of the leader of the Gambia Moral Congress (GMC) Mai Fatty by the Basse police in Upper River Region (URR) on 7 March 2011 is injurious to our democratic dispensation ahead of the 2011 polls for presidency in The Gambia.
Arbitrary arrests, detentions, disappearances and intimidations of opposition party supporters must no longer be condoned.
The arrest of the GMC leader’s father, two of his father’s younger brothers and his uncle is said to have proceeded by a town hall meeting of GMC militants in Wuli West.
The alleged arrest and detention of the four senior family members of Fatty including his father is said to be in connection with GMC poster and GMC flag at the family compound. Putting up flags and posters must not warrant arrest.
The best way to avoid a laming political environment is to avoid violating the political rights of the people.
The pre-election period of 2011 is a significant determinant to be used to gauge the type of leadership and the ground texture of the nation’s political field.
The constitution of The Gambia has guaranteed the right to belong to, and form a political party. As we are yet to make an official confirmation, we prefer to reserve the rest of our condemnation for the meantime.

I would be interested to know what the Presidents supporters on Bantaba think of this story! How can they justify it? Do some people really still think Gambia is a true democracy and free and fair elections can take place?

Moe I do not think anyone can refute this story. The story is carried by Foroyaa; The Point and Daily News. What the Gambian Government is doing is unconstitutional period. I am impressed and I respect your ability to defend and or deflect unconstitutional acts of the State. |

Terangba Constitutionality, effective democratic institutions and powers of government depends on government running the country. In this regard THE CONSTITUTION IS WORKING FOR JAMMEH/AP.R.C. AND THEY CAN MOBILISED, STAGE MANAGE A.P.R.C PROPAGANDA OR CAMPAIGNING IN STATE BUSINESS/FUNCTIONS/ACTIVITIES AT ANY GIVEN TIME WITHOUT HINDRANCE; WHILST OTHER POLITICAL PARTIES ARE CONSTRAINED AND MOST OF THEIR ACTIVITIES RESTRICTED BY THE STATE
ON THIS TOPIC I DON'T KNOW ABOUT FACTS OF THIS CASE BUT LETS TRY TO ANALYSED IT PROPERLY TO UNDERSTAND THE CIRCUMSTANCES SURROUNDING THIS CASE. I AGREE THAT ITS POLITICALLY MOTIVATED BUT ACCORDING TO NEWS/REPORTS, FOR EXAMPLE AS SATED;
1. THE POINT"Bunka Fatty, according to reports, was arrested, and still being held at the time of going to press, after the police allegedly found a GMC flag hoisted and posters bearing the GMC leader’s pictures in the family compound in Nyakoi Kerewan by one Momodou Fatty."

I absolutely doubt that Terangba and I will tell you why. First and foremost the IEC is the independent regulatory agency responsible for administering Elections throughout the country, I know for a fact that I am not well versed with what the campaign act entails in Gambia or whether there is such a thing anyways but deducing from what the IEC emphasized and is basing its case and arguement on
" The arrest was in connection with a violation of the I.E.C. policy by the family, since it was not time for elections”.
Well am assuming a law has been broken if the allegations are true and there is such a law that prohibits such acts which in my opinion are harmless acts out of desperation anyways, has never been challenged, crying victim is a lame mans strategy so let me try to pull a "Turk" the answer is a simple Yes or NO so choose,I was not doubting the veracity of the story but the disingenuous way it was delivered. What happened to fact based content? Look it is obviously a known fact that the IEC is promulgating this regulation and in short has every right to implement the law and issue advisory opinions that apply the law to particular circumstances such as the Fatty dramatization and early bird syndrome. The early bird ain't gonna get the worm this time around. The question is can the IEC defend the law in court or is the Fatty family gonna challenge the constitutionality of such a law at the high courts. They are the goddamn lawyers and should know what the process entails. The KEY word is responsibility, either you let it be known that you are challenging the law, simply because it violates your constitutional rights if not you are a criminal and should be treated as such. This was a deliberate contempt of the very laws set to govern the elections. I get to invite everyone to come and stand up for what they believe in and if Mai is in denial well there is no better place to win the hearts and minds of the People. You are Invited Mr Fatty...............................................................Peace |

More news as reported from The Point Man arrested for hanging GMC flag in his compound under http://thepoint.gm/africa/gambia/article/man-arrested-for-hanging-gmc-flag-in-his-compound
Further points for clarification. The IEC is constitutionally mandated to conduct elections/referenda and further legislations (IEC Acts passed through parliament) developed how IEC should function (independently & effectively), to execute its duties/responsibilities and conduct ALL ELECTION ACTIVITIES (and additional responsibilities of election of Speaker & Deputy Speaker).
1. "The IEC came into existence in 1997 with the sole responsibility of conducting elections and referenda in The Gambia."
2. "The IEC was established in accordance with Section 42 of the 1997 Constitution of the Republic of The Gambia. It operates within the confines of the Electoral Laws in the Constitution, Elections Decree No. 78 of 1996 and the Local Government Act 2002."
REFER IEC WEBSITE FOR LEGISLATION UNDER http://www.iec.gm/legislation
Once a political party is registered legally, they are bound to COMPLY by IEC regulations under the constitutions; especially for this topic ELECTION DECREE
The FACTS are based on ELECTION DECREE but as politics is a DANGEROUS VENTURE; AS FAMILIES, MEMBERS, SUPPORTERS AND MILITANTS MAY SUFFER PERSECUTION AND STATE TERROR WE KNEW THE TYPE OF LEADER AND APRC GOVERNMENT WE HAVE AND THEY WILL USE ALL KINDS OF MACHINATIONS AGAINST JAMMEH'S OPPONENTS AND ANY OPPOSITION “an attempt to put fear among our teeming supporters in URR, particularly in Wuli West”.According to Mai Fatty WHAT ABOUT FEAR FOR HIS LIFE ALREADY INSTILLED IN HIM AS FUGITIVE PARTY LEADER OF GMC
THEREFORE ITS AN UNFORTUNATE INCIDENT FOR LAWYER MAI FATTY'S FAMILY ENTANGLED BY ELECTION DECREE UNDER DIFFICULT CIRCUMSTANCES FOR MAI

Moe The way you lie, close your blind eyes to Jammeh's crimes is legendary. Here is the news report on Momodou's postings: "I reported to the police at 3 pm the same day, and the police told me that they were looking for the man who hung the flag and posters of the GMC at our compound,” Bunka narrated.
May be you will retract your cold blooded lie. ordinary people are tragetted and harassed by *****s like you. Shame on you empty blind, cold hearted folks like you. Have the decency to withdraw your lie and foolishness.

When contacted, the Commissioner of Police for URR, Ebrima Cham, confirmed the story, and added that the “arrest was in connection with a violation of the I.E.C. policy by the family, since it was not time for elections”. The above is a very flawed reason. You have APRC flags hanging all over the place, highways, Denton bridge etc. and also on the national TV on a daily basis and yet this Police Commissioner is telling us that hanging a political party flag in a private home is a violation of I.E.C rules. |

Momodou; my thoughts exactly
Moe should the police arrest all the APRC supporters flying APRC flags in their compounds. If it is unlawful to fly partisan flags before election season then that law must be applied to all parties.
As a reasonable person, do you think it is fair to enforce the law on one party and not the other?
