Africa Center for Information and Development (ACID) Press Release March 2nd 2011
TARGETTING BLACK AFRICAN MIGRANTS AS MERCENARIES IN LIBYA The Africa Center for Information & Development (ACID) is deeply concerned by reports of the escalating violence in Libya and specifically the systemic attack on African migrants who are being referred to as “Mercenaries”. Rights groups fear that dozens have already been killed. Such violations and heinous crimes need serious attention not only from the African community but also from the International community.
We are aware of the tensions between black Africa migrants and Arab Libyans long before the uprising, which at times have resulted in unreported murder of poor African Migrants. Thus, the current turmoil and lawlessness in the country creates an atmosphere where vulnerable African migrants are at the receiving end of racist and murderous attacks. ACID would like to call on the AU, EU and the UN to monitor the development in Libya, especially the violence being perpetrated against black migrants. Such acts of violence amount to crimes against humanity and the perpetrators must be held accountable. ACID supports initiatives and action from African states, institutions and organizations to pursue these crimes and put an immediate stop to them.
We are also calling on all human rights organizations, civil society organizations, African organization, and the international community to condemn any act of violence being perpetrated on black migrants in Libya.

| This can be a focal point for information from relatives and friends who have lost loved ones in these circumstances and also friend who were with black African migrant workers in Lybia when they themselves are able to leave Lybia,I hope that this press release will be picked up and acted upon by African newspapers and media and published,in these days of good communication there is an easy way of sending information to those organisations who care about the plight of migrant workers who are often exploited in so many ways. |

| Am deeply concerned about the plight of those Africans still in Libya especially our Gambians who refused to go back home from Libya. I hope and pray they are not victims of either the mad dog Gaddafi or opposition forces. God save Africa from Dictatorship |
