Observer Conspirators: Our threat is far greater than they thought…
By Demba Baldeh Seattle, WA
I am determined to write with more DEFIANCE today than ever before against the Jammeh regime and it’s co-conspirators to suppress the voices of the innocent Gambian people. The Daily Observer’s move to publish the names of subscribers to the freedom paper as informants is nothing but a DESPERATE move to stop the most powerful weapon (Information) on the face of the earth to expose the inhuman behaviors of the present regime.
No amount of intimidation and threat can stop informed Gambian citizens from fighting against the injustices of the regime. We have witnessed and read in history, the worst dictators and their cohorts in the African continent and around the world perish with time. The wind of change is blowing and the perpetrators are taking every move to stop the momentum.
Gambians both on the ground and in the Diaspora must continue the pressure on the government by increasingly exchanging information and using whatever means to draw the attention of the world to our peoples’ plight. We must realize and take pride in the fact that we present a far more threat to the regime than we anticipated. We are determined to dislodge this government without using arms or civil unrest, but by means of information and education. This reality has been enforced by the continuous restlessness in both the State house and APRC supporters’ camps. We have seen every tactical move by Jammeh supporters to cool down the heat, but they have failed woefully. The threat is so magnificent and overwhelming that regime outlets and mouth pieces like the daily observer are compromising every journalistic ethic to help save the situation.
The Daily observer can conspire to arrest, jail, beat, black mail, and even kill our innocent citizens, but that will not safe anyone from dancing to the tune of judgment day. Judgment day for Gambians is when the brutal dictators and their worshippers are finally brought down to their knees to repent for the suffering they brought to our people. That day is certainly near and history will record every iota of it even in the very achieves of the daily observer.
The message that we must continue to spread is that we should take pride in going to jail for what we believe. We must be ready to sacrifice our lives for other generations to rip the benefits. We must also remember that several of our brothers and sisters have already given up their lives for the course of freeing our people from oppression. That heroism must continue at every sector of our society. Gambians must be determined in the fight to preserve our culture of freedom and love for one another.
Enough is enough, and history has taught us that the oppressor has always lived in fear of reprisal and will eventually succumb to the truth and the will of the people. There is absolutely nothing more powerful than the will of the people and their determination to overcome. The most obvious and powerful weapon people need in this day and age is information, which has always been a threat to those who survive by oppressing the innocent. We must continue to pressure, build as many information outlets as possible to put the daily activities of the government under the radar.
Finally, it is difficult for our people to get used to the threats of arrest, detention and disappearance. However, we must remind ourselves that several Gambians have already been to jail for crimes they did not commit. Some have died and others disappeared without explanation or credible investigation. What this tells us is that we are our own saviors, and we have already sacrificed enough to the level of no return.
For those citizens who found their names on the malicious list and are in the Gambia, and should you be arrested by the police, you should keep your heads high with pride as you have committed no crime. If I were in the Gambia today, certainly I would have reported to the police and face any consequences for standing up for what I believe. We must be ready to march into prison cells with pride for that is not a threat to us all anymore. We should turn prison cells into resistant houses as the South Africans did during the apartheid Era. Today, South Africans are enjoying the sacrifice they made to protect their citizen rights. We have seen light at the end of the tunnel and we may all not get there together, but we will get there one day.
My piece of advice to law enforcement is that, it is disturbing for any professional law enforcement person to read what was published in the observer and take that to be a violation of our constitutional law. On the contrary to what was reported, the daily observer has violated the privacy of our citizens by publishing their names as informers instead of subscribers to an online newspaper. You are dealing with your own brothers and sisters here and the very citizens you took ought to protect. You are entrusted to protect the citizens and not any individual group of people. Therefore, exercise professional judgment and always remember that you may be the next victim of this regime. The lesson for us to learn here is that this exposes this government and the so called daily newspaper. The observer should be renamed the daily garbage.
Long live the Gambian people Long live freedom of expression Long live democracy and the rule of law

| Almost cried with anger and passion as I read this piece. Best i have heard since the Martin Luther I have a dream speech. Post this to news sites and have them add it. Only if we had more Gambians like you, with such passion and commitment to see freedom prevail, things would be very different. |
Fake details keep you safer online. My name is not tony. its George. No actually, its Peter |

| They were exposed or suspected to be based in UK where Data Protection Act opersates and massive liability to protect users exists. No worries the law and the courts are effective there. |

Oh yes kobo. But only if pa and co exploit the possibility of bringing the hackers to justice. The British justice system is very uncompromising with criminals.
There is no doubt in mind that if Pa uses the legal channel available to him he could easily succeed in his legal battle. The US and UK have very close ties in fighting cyber crimes. It is over too easy for their cyber crime squard to trace the hackers and punish them accordingly.
An example should be set to deter others in this dangerous act. How many innocent people are put in danger as a result of this fruitless and tasteless act? |

dbaldeh,
Blessing be on to you. Keep it bro and well done.
Jammeh has a colossal problem. His problem is precipetated by the advent of the modern technological age. One can olny succeed in supressing a nation by starving them of information. That is not possible in this contemporary times.
Information about jammeh's stupidity is leaking from every minute hole around and far away from and he cannot stand the status quo anymore.
Now it is the turn of those hypocrites who were rushing to denounce the unfounded alleged coup to honorably come out in their numbers and denounce any illegal act of harassing innocent people. Failure to do so will lead to people suspending any respect harboured for them. There are far too many disingeneous people now a days who only run after their personal interest at the expense of the masses. That is pure selfishness and should be given up. |
