This from the D.O.

OK, so there is a black hole that needs to be filled, what are the
GPTC going to do to fill this black hole ?
Is the GPTC still operating ?
If so what are its assets?
In Kanifing Industrial estate there is a GPTC site that contains vehicles that have broken down due to "maintenance" problems,I suspect that with mechanics who know WHAT THEY ARE DOING and are paid proper wages some vehicles could be put back to work, there are sufficient used spare parts to cannibalise the vehicles and put SOME back to work. The same applies to vehicles that are resting in the same state in North Bank.If that course of action is not what GPTC (if it still exists !) wants to do, then Auction the "resting" vehicles ,on condition that they are not broken up for scrap or parts sold off,and let private enterprise have a go. Money raised in this way could then be paid into SSHFC,the private owners having a REASONABLE daily levy payable DAILY to SSHFC Who would issue a printed official reciept,ONLY UNTIL the black hole is filled, after which ,driving jobs conducting jobs GOOD MECHANIC jobs would be created.Private owners would be required to take out PENSION PLANS with SSHFC for their employees. Will it happen ?.........shouldn't think so. ---------------------------------------------------------------------
GPTC owes SSHFC over D24.9M Africa » Gambia Tuesday, February 22, 2011 The managing director of Social Security and Housing Finance Corporation (SSHFC) has disclosed to the Select Committee on Public Account and Public Enterprises of the National Assembly (PAC/PEC) that the Gambia Public and Transportation Corporation (GPTC) is owing his institution over D24.9 million.
Tumbul Danso made this disclosure before the National Assembly Joint Session of the PAC/PEC and officials from the Ministry of Finance; and the Ministry of Works, Construction and Infrastructure (MoWCI) on Monday at the National Assembly in Banjul. He explained that GPTC is one of the institutions which fall under the Federated Pension Fund (FPF) and that the employees do not contribute at all, but rather, the employers contribute the whole amount on behalf of the employees and this has been declared to GPTC whereby at a certain point in time, the employer was unable to continue the contributions payment to the extent that the arrears became quite colossal. He stated that the Social Security principle is such that everybody that contributes to the scheme have an account with the Corporation and it is therefore inconceivable that they can use somebody’s else account to pay another person. “If people are due for their payment of benefits, the SSHFC would insist that the gap that exists as far as that particular employee is concerned should be sealed by the employer to enable them effect payment of benefit to whoever is affected,” he remarked.
