RE: Gun Battle in Cassamance
http://hellogambia.com/?p=6230
Foroya's report on the gun battle between Senegal and Cassamance makes it a necessity to take the case of the intercepted arms in Nigeria as a serious case at the UN quarters.
Just out of curiosity: Is there any reason why Senegal cannot give independence to Cassamance?

I think Senegal should honor their promise then; 'word is bond.'
Thanks,
Yero.

Thanks 2bab. Excuse the oversight of your posting. The following response to Wuyeh might interest you. On your part, what is your take???
Bro Wuyeh, Excuse my elementary understanding of this conflict. Personally, I think if all these regions gain independence, Africa will be a better place. 30 drys years of war, something is more fun than that. Besides, as contained in the links, did Senghor promise Cassamance Independence? If he did, I think it should be honored unconditionally without any reservation. Even in real life, when your child reaches maturity, you allow them to be independent. A similar conflict is in Israel and Palestine....all these troubles can be certainly avoided by giving Independence. What it comes down to, nations and people can hang onto being superior, when you can divide into smaller nations and enjoy more peace. I don't think there is anything greater in mercy of peace and good health. I know this one is critical; depends on the side of the coin one is in. Cassamance is less developed, if at all there is anything called development in certain regions, and there is no indication that some of these regions have projects in the pipeline. These residents pay heavy taxes just like those living in other areas. It becomes geographically unfair that even basic amenities cannot be evenly distributed. Please educate me on what you think Africa will become if Cassamance gains Independence. Thanks though for your input...
Yero.

Dalton1,thanks for information that is new to me not moving in political circles I am rather at a loss but I did hear that the president of Senegal had taken more of an interest in the Cassamance region recently and this was a big factor in calming down the region, this region has always been problematic between The Gambia and Senegal in a political sense, again because the White man drew the lines and divided the tribal peoples who recognised no boundries.I do think however that Cassamance would be unable to function as a country because of its size and so far as I am aware lack of any political structure, you coming from that region can of course correct me if I am mistaken, as I said before I am interested in West Africa and am not a mover in any political way. |
