During this VERY quiet time on bantaba in cyberspace where even the usual politicos appear to be having trouble with writing anything constructive I began searching around for a topic that may generate some postings,I found this piece which will make some uncomfortable,is such practice acceptable in 2010 ? Is "Taaka Sagarr’ still practiced in the Gambia ? I personally know of a case where a young girl was taken in marriage by a VERY much older man.No NOT me

http://www.foroyaa.gm/modules/news/article.php?storyid=5653

"Taaka Sagarr’ or child betrothal is an old traditional practice, dating back in the feudal period, in which families try to forge or cement relationships among themselves through betrothing their children at birth or at an early age for marriage. This old tradition has extended into modern times and is still being practiced in some communities or cultures.
This is however a harmful traditional practice and can backfire if either of the two children involved in this arranged marriage reject the other when they come of age become an adult."

"Simple is good" & I strongly dislike politics. You cannot defend the indefensible.
