The Gambian administration has now adaped the UK model of making vehicle owners their cash cow,in other words lets tax the car or vehicle owner, they have MONEY,they have a vehicle, all very well for conrties where MOST of the population have money !! IN Gambia where MOST of the population DO NOT HAVE MONEY let alon a vehicle but rely for their transport needs on a Gilli Gilli or minivan to move about and transport their market items, this NEW TAX will cause MANY more problems.A RETHINK is most urgently required .

The Office of the Inspector General of Police hereby informs the general public that The Gambia Police Force has introduced a new number plate system through the partnership with Comfort Quality Services Ltd.

Unlike the existing ones, the new number plates are more durable and have stronger security features as they are built out of Aluminium.

In this regard, owners of vehicles without number plates and those with the old number plates are urged to apply for the new Aluminium Number Plates.

According to a press release from The Gambia Police Force, payments are to be made at the Trust Bank Ltd where a receipt will be issued. Applicants are advised to come along with this receipt to the issuing outlets.

Currently the new number plates are issued at Banjul Police Headquarters, Kairaba Police Station and Brikama Police Station. The charges for the Aluminium number plates are as follows:

1. Motor Vehicle Number Plates D1200 (One thousand Two Hundred Dalasis)

2. Motor Cycle Number Plates D630 (Six Hundred and Thirty Dalasis)

3. Personalised Number Plates D5000 (Five Thousand Dalasis)

Application for replacement requires applicants to have their Valid National Identification Card, Motor vehicle Insurance and to surrender their replaced number plates to the Police. The charges for replacement are the same as stated above.

The cooperation of the general public is highly solicited.

Well folks ,it would appear that a "clarification" has been issued,in my opinion this has caused a BIG sigh of relief from a vast number of the population of the major cities affected, well done decision makers for realising that a rethink was required for the roll out of this scheme of public and private enterprise.

According to a Press Release from the office of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), they (Police) are in partnership with Comfort Quality Services to produce number plates.
