THE POLITICAL PARTIES ARE PREPARING FOR 2016

Foroyaa Editorial: Published on Sunday, 26 January 2014

Different parties are known to be making pronouncements or taking initiatives to prepare to mobilise their supporters for 2016. The ruling party also caught the people by storm when it announced that it was holding a congress in March. It appears that no party is going to wait until few months before an election to be active. The Gambian people are the subject of all political activities and no political party could have clout unless it is given recognition by the people.
Hence no matter how much effort political parties make to be with the people if they do not receive the support of the people they cannot be relevant.
The support of the people is what makes a political party relevant. Hence the people should be making plans to be as active as the political parties in order to have a vibrant political system that would stimulate hope and promise of a better future.

Foroyaa will follow the debate among the political parties so as to present divergent views to enable the public to make informed choice. We hope the electronic media especially GRTS , the state media, will follow suit.

1. UDP Task force Meeting

“Kibaaro news welcome this development of continued engagement by an opposition party, giving forces to the people, in them advising on how things should be done.”

The United Democratic Party (UDP) held a task force meeting last Saturday, January 25 2014. The aim is to commence a wider consultation on the way forward of the party and the underlying difficulties opposition parties encounter in the tough and intolerable political existence. Party members came from the KMC, Kombos and other regions to commence this very important task of sharing ideas and experiences on issues related to the way forward for the party.

The Meeting was chaired by the party President, Mr Dembo Bonjang. Top UDP executive members shared their thoughts on areas of the political landscape needed to be strengthen and steps the party need to take in competing more effectively, through engagement and regular dialogue.....
