Posted - 01 Aug 2017 : 11:20:06 Crossing Borders Democracy Debate on Gambia
Ubuntu-huset Købmagergade 43 1. sal, 1150 København http://crossingborders.dk/
Crossing Borders has the pleasure to invited interested individuals, groups and organisations to a public debate on Gambia with the prominent Gambia MP Halifa Sallah. Mr. Sallah was one of the leading persons behind the removal of Gambia's long time and violent dictator Yayah Jammeh, who terorised the small and strategic West African country for 22 years. Jammeh was defeated in free elections in December 2016, but refused to give up power.
Thanks to a combined pressure from the democratic forces inside Gambia and military threat by the West African regional body ECOWAS, Jammeh fled to exile in Equatorial Guinea on January 19, 2017.
Now, the Gambians have the daunting task of building an inclusive democracy, law and order as foundation on which the Gambian people can embark on a path toward sustainable development. Halifa Sallah is leading the democratisation process from parliament instead of accepting the position of minister. Here is a link about him: https://jollofnews.com/2016/06/08/halifa-sallah-gambias-future-is-in-the-hands-of-the-people/
The event will start with a keynote presentation by Mr. Sallah, coffee and tea break, debate and then networking.
Come and join the debate :-) |
