The Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) has recently embarked on a sensitisation outreach programme in URR on the tax payer seminar. It is designed to ensure voluntary tax complaint.

Matty Njie Senghore, the manager of Compliance and Taxpayer Education at GRA, said that the two days tax payer seminar was not a mere coincidence but part of GRA’s deliberate strategy targeting regional authorities and business community in the region.

She added that the objective of partnering with regional authorities and the business community was to share knowledge and understanding about taxation.

She recalled that similar engagements were held in West Coast and North Bank Region. He added that GRA is also engaging other key stakeholders such as the key tertiary institution in series of programmes to deepen their understandings on the revenue management and administration.

In his opening statement, Omar Sey, the deputy governor of URR, expressed gratitude to the business community for answering to the call of the GR.

“The taxes we pay contribute immensely to the national development plan of the government.”

He said that the seminar will help people understand the significance of tax payment and help people change their attitudes towards tax payment.

Henry Mendy, senior taxpayers education officer, explained that the GRA was created by an Act of the National Assembly in 2004 to efficiently administer revenue for national growth.

Wang Ming, a Chinese business man said he has been conducting business in the country but points out that the poor road infrastructure is hampering their business.

He also hailed GRA for the seminar.
