It has taken a long time to get to a point where land disputes can be finalised in a way that has to be accepted by the administration and all the parties in involved.

A land dispute case was heard on 27 August 2015, before Magistrate Janneh of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court.
Foday Sanneh, plaintiff, dragged one Idrissa Tamba to court, praying to the court to make an order for Idrissa Tamba to be evicted from his compound.
Foday Sanneh testified that he lives at Latrikunda German.
He said Idrissa Tamba, the defendant, asked him to rent him his compound in 1992.
Mr Sanneh adduced that he told the defendant he could use a portion of the compound and build a house, adding that the defendant has been staying in the compound for fifteen years without paying anything, after he built a house.
He added that it was a mud building.
The plaintiff further stated that the defendant asked to allow him to plaster the house, but he told him that he could only plaster inside and not outside.
Mr Sanneh narrated that he observed that the way the defendant was behaving towards his family made him to conclude that the defendant may claim ownership of the compound, whenever he dies.
He said he had problems with the defendant, adding that the defendant’s son took him to the police.
Mr Sanneh told the court that it has been five years now, since he and the defendant were not in good terms.
He adduced that his late father owned the compound, but he is the one who pays the compound rates.
Magistrate Janneh then asked him to produce documents showing that he pays compound rates, and other documents in connection to ownership of the compound.
The case was adjourned to 3 September 2015.
