Gambians could remember donors making commitments amounting to hundreds of millions to support the Gambia’s development efforts. All that is history as the Government takes a path that is leading to its isolation from its traditional partners. Senegal on the other hand has been improving its governance record and is able to charm bilateral and international development partners to a round table donors conference at the World Bank Office in Paris that enabled it to get a pledge amounting to 7.46 billion dollars with the aim of expanding the Senegalese economy. This is conveyed by the News Centre of the UNDP on 26 February 2014. President Macky Sall has been on TV to tell the Senegalese people that the pledges are beyond their expectation. Ex President Kuffour of Ghana was present in Paris and did encourage Senegal to give value for money when the opportunity arises so that it could also evolve into a model economy for the continent. Foroyaa will be monitoring the projects to be financed and the implementation process. This is where integration could have paid dividend through the harmonisation of the Senegalese and Gambian economies and the joint embracing of Republican and democratic values. Where is Gambia to go from here with its relation with development partners? The future will tell.
