EXPLOSIVE STUFF,have ALL Gambians buried their heds in the sand or were they,(like me),Totally unaware of such traditional practices.
Now that The Point has brought this into the public domain surely it is VITAL to put an end to such a cultural practice the exists in the 21st Century ,How can this change come about ?

At least five people have been reportedly wounded when fight broke out between the same Sarahule tribe in Koina village in the Kantora District, Upper River Region, The Point has been informed.
A source in URR that spoke to our reporter on the condition of anonymity, disclosed that the fight ensued when one Hamidou Chima Gumaneh met one Buba Dambelly at a local shop in Koina and told him (Dambelly) that they are not going to watch a ‘Nawettan’ football match involving other people of the same Sarahule tribe regarded as ‘slaves.’
That remarks, our source added, did not go down well with Dambelly. After Gumaneh made this ill-hated remarks, Dambelly got out of temper and then a fight ensued.
Caste system is still prevalent in some parts of the country and URR is one particular region, where some clans regard others as inferior (slaves) and others as nobles.
A source told this medium that seven people were arrested in connection with the clash. Six of those arrested were from the tribe who regarded themselves as founders of the village and one from the so-called slave-clan.
They were detained at the Fatoto Police Station as investigation into the matter deepens. The five wounded were; Dawda Sanneh, Ousman Gumaneh, Jafara Gumaneh, Kissima Gumaneh and Marie Samura.
Our reporter has been informed that the regional Police Commissioner Modoulamin Sankareh, on Wednesday visited Koina and called on the villagers to settle their differences and nature unity among themselves. Meanwhile, the case file has been reportedly transferred to Basse Police Station.
The spokesperson of The Gambia Police Force Spt. David Kujabi could not be reached for comment at the time of going to press.

The seven youths from Koina village, who were arrested during a fight between the same Sarahule tribe but a different societal class in the Kantora District, Upper River Region, have been released on police bail, according to people familiar with the matter.
They were arrested in a clash between the so-called ‘slaves’ and their ‘masters.’ Four people were reported wounded after the clash.
Hagie Gumaneh, a youth from Koina village currently residing in Kombo who spoke to our reporter in interview described the incident as ‘unfortunate.’ Gumaneh added that they have been leaving in that community for decades without problem. “It was a misunderstanding that occurred between them and it has been resolved,” he said, confirming that four people were wounded during the fight and not five people as earlier reported. “Dawda, was not part of the people that were wounded during the clash. Beside the incident did not happen inside the shop. However, it happened outside a local shop belonging to Hamidou’s father.”
The village elders and other stakeholders, he went on, have taken necessary measures. Therefore, such kind of misunderstandings will not repeat itself again. “We are all related and leaving peacefully for the past 50 years,” he told our reporter.
