Sab, in life there is dreaming and reality.The 'welcome to jamrock reggae cruise' is a reality because there is money behind it-a lot of money ! The Marley bothers are not poor! To talk about the potential of the music industry in the Gambia is one thing, but for sure there aint gonna be any cruises like the one you highlighted when the Barra ferry can't even work regularly.The music industry in the Gambia is in its infancy.Sure young people are making music in homegrown studios but you know its not like here in the Uk where there are plenty of good studios where almost anyone can record a cd and have it distributed for almost next to nothing. The best equipment is actually in the radio stations in the Gambia. I did a DJ session on West Coast radio a few years back and I was impressed with what they had but that was due to foreign money. There is talent and enthusiasm, a lot of good singers and musicians but the infrastructure is not there and I don't see too many people investing in the music business in the Gambia right now.
Nice to see a reply. Very sad business the Banjul ferry, in February we used small boat to cross during the day & ferry at evening, the crossing time was unbelievably long. For the seven losing their life in small boat last Wednesday evening RIP. (See Bantaba General)
The recording venue's & equipment is not as years back it has come a long way in a very short period of time under extreme difficulties.
