Ramadan Mubarak!
The Point Editorial: Published on Thursday, June 18, 2015

Muslims in The Gambia have started the Ramadan month-long fasting today. We would, therefore, like to extend a message of love and encouragement to all Muslims in The Gambia and beyond, as we enter the month-long fasting period.

As Muslims, we should always upkeep the precepts of the fasting or Ramadan month by being more prayerful, maintain spiritual cleansing and endeavour to clear our hearts of all grievances, and where necessary mend our differences with one another, especially with our neighbours and people in our communities.

We should as well be tolerant and generous, whist we avoid wasting foods that could be given to others or the needy.

We are also advised to intensify our worship of Allah and act in good faith in all that we do to attract the blessings of the Almighty God. Those who could not fast for one good reason or the other, such as ailment, are also advised to keep themselves close to God.

It is essential that we observe fasting according to the precepts of God, as it is a divine commandment that we should always endeavour to observe. Fasting implies guarding oneself from evil and attracting all elements of righteousness, thus reflecting the essence of piety.

We should continue to be our brother’s keeper, an attribute which ranges from willfully submitting to abstaining from lawful food, drink, and other relations, from sunrise to sunset, to guarding against cheating, telling lies, and inflating prices of services and food commodities.

We should pray for peace and prosperity for The Gambia and the entire world.

Ramadan is a month full of blessings to be showered upon us by our Mighty Creator; so let’s make the best use of it each year by living in purity, doing good, avoiding temptation and getting closer to God through studying His Word and being prayerful.

Once again: Ramadan Mubarak!

“Eid Mubarak to all Muslims around the world, may the blessings of Allah be with you today.”
