Subject: Alert, Alert, this is not meant to offend! I found these two versions of the Koran passage, i first came acrossed it in one of my classes, then i researched it and found that this is actually in the Koran. is this untrue, is it a false translation. to the muslims out there, how do you thing about this?

Reply author: kondorong WELL WE MIGHT NEED A RELIGIOUS AUTHORITY. I AM NO BODY WHEN IT COMES TO RELIGION.
Reply author: kassma are you muslim though, cause this shocked me when i saw it. even though i'm not muslim, i have a lot of respect for them cause most of the ones i've known have been very disciplined and good people, and then i saw this in one of my textbooks and was shocked. maybe this is why middle easterners are so harsh towards their women
Reply author: jambo "As for those from whom you fear disobedience, admonish them and send them to beds apart and beat them. Then if they obey you, take no further action against them"
Reply author: Sister Omega I think one should use their commonsense there are men who beat their wives all over the world regardless of religion, and there are men who withold sex as a form of punishment in disagreements. In most incidences a reasonable man will not raise his hand to his wife with the exception of self defense. But how many would withold sex from their wives to prove a point, is it more than the wife beater or less? May hope is that it is more.
Reply author: serenata The Holy Coran contains measures for almost every situation in life, and things must have been far worse for women before the Prophet gave his codex. But as times have changed the Coran, inter alia an image of its era, needs to be revised and updated. Otherwise I think sooner or later women will turn away from Islam.
Reply author: jambo sister omega, men who withhold sex as a punishment may find that their wives will look elsewhere. Still sad
Reply author: Rainbow witholding sex as a form of purnisment
Reply author: serenata In a polygamous marriage the husband always has a choice, the wife has none. But maybe these women have secret lovers.
Reply author: Sister Omega Jambo there are a lot of things that we don't necessarily practice anymore are in Holy Books. That's why we were given the power of reasoning to decide for ourselves what to do for the best. If we were to follow the line of reasoning further about witholding sex in the Qu'ranic verse quoted. I suppose at the time it was seen as a punishment to the woman because her husband had more than one wife. I take your point Rainbow because whilst the cat's away the mouse will play! But if it's sharia law they better play very quietly.
Reply author: jambo Sister omega, I think my point is this what is disobedience
Reply author: Sister Omega I think the verse was talking about dressing in revealing clothes.
Reply author: serenata No, it was also about superiority and obedience. And, interesting point, this was connected with material dependence...

Reply author: Babylon Whatīs obdience? See, I canīt even spell it. Were a bit wild here in sweden I guess.
Reply author: serenata You are true savages, everybody knows that. Running around with knives between your teeth, wearing the bones of slain enemies as a necklace. You drink beer out of your enemies' skulls. Obedience is a foreign word for you Swedish ladies, it is a fiasco.
Reply author: Babylon True!
Reply author: serenata To make things worse, the necklace bones are those of your lovers, the drinking skulls formerly belonged to your husbands. But I fear German ladies are not much better.

quote: men do beat their wives around the world, but texts like this justify and excuse that kind of behavior. and its not only the Koran, the Bible has some questionable things in their too. although i'm christian, there are some parts of the bible i refuse to acknowledge and believe as the truth. plus, are you sure a muslim woman can divorce her husband if he can't satisfy her, because these women don't even have the power to deny sex to their husbands let alone that he's no good and she can't stand him.
Reply author: Jack Dont believe a word of the bible Kassma. It has been written by toubabs. LOL
Reply author: kondorong there used to be another form of Christianity taught to slaves. the doctrines similar but very different.
Reply author: LEMON TIME How many times have the Bible been change since Jesus,The Quran never been change.
Reply author: Sister Omega Islam is the first to give women righs on this earth. it came at a time when men dont just beat their wife but buy them ,sell them ,dispose them ' asign them to their guest to give them sexual satisfaction ,they were just a property of a dad,(who buried their daugters alive because they feel is completely useless to rise someone property) husband or a master.

quote: Sisters and brothers, In my opinion, if we start discussing religion here on the forum, we seem to forget that most of us here are not authorities in the Quran or Bible. I find it difficult to discuss because I have Christian and non belivers withn my family. Two of my sons have a Jewish mother. I am a muslim and try to do as much as I can. Whan it comes to the women, I symphatise with them because of the wrong interperations men have been doing. As my Imam tells me, women and men are equal in Islam. When it comes to prayers, education, jobs and prayers we are equal. Women enjoy having exceptions because of their nature. This comes when the woman has her montely periods, underpregnancy and the wife is the only one in the family who can withold her salary to herself and let the husband cater for the whole family. It is the responsibility of the husband to mentain, feed and cloth the family. I would rather ask a landed person in the quoran for proper interpretation. Sab seems to have a good knoledge in islam. I am just a scholar as we all are. I hope we men reconsider the interpretations of the holy books. Bantaba in Cyberspace : https://www.gambia.dk/forums/ © 2005-2024 Nijii |
